amen!! preaching pure grace like Paul, you will always be accused of giving a license to sin, self-righteous people can't handle grace.
-
Thank you boy have I"ve been wrong all these years
-
Pastor Ryan Rufus,I love GOD, I love you, keep it up

So, we now have license to sin? Since we have complete forgiveness, and no longer have to confess, we then no longer have to worry that our sin will be held against us, and therefore will be able to commit sin at will. After all, it will be forgiven, so a believer is free to sin as they see fit.
And having written that, should I no longer should feel sorrow or guilt at having sinned against my brother or sister, since sorrow or guilt relates directly to repentance? After all, I have total forgiveness, I should not feel any amount of guilt for intentionally wronging a fellow brother or sister. -
we confess because we are forgiven..we dont confess to be forgiven...pastor Ryan Rufus thanks for grace God bless you aniont you and pastor Joseph Prince...

Dear Mr.Ryan Rufus,
I beg to differ from your claim that verse 1John 1:9 refers to unbelievers. As christian we are called to confess our sins though we are now justified we do sinned daily. This epistle was addressed to believers and if you continue reading to 1John 2:1 it says John addressed the believers that they should not sinned and if they do sinned we have an advocate with the Father ie we as believers should confessed to the Father as we have Jesus as our Advocate to intercedes for us. Thus In my opinion this verse 1John 1:9 is addressed to believer and this verse is not meant for evangelism. Secondly this epistle was addressed to believers termed as "WE" the first person pronoun a self professing believers. My email is: aaronlogistics@yahoo.com. Thanks -
John is speaking to believers about the false teaching of unbelievers (1 John 2:26). Those unbelievers believed that they had no sin for which Jesus had cleansed. Obviously, anyone who has been cleansed by the blood of Jesus "once for all" is not lying if they say they have no sin, otherwise His sacrifice would have been insufficient. Only those who claim they have no sin that needed to be cleansed are the liars, and those were also the ones who denied that Jesus had come in the flesh.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sermon Ryan. Personally, I believe this could refer to either unbelievers or believers, but I love the way you explained it. It's all about recieving God's grace, not religious self-abasement. As a beloved brother in Christ, let me share with you one thing I learned is that the secret to repentance is understanding that God loves you and wants to save you. That is something that melts the hearts of sinners. It's not conjuring up emotions or getting rid of all your sins in order for God to accept you, but simply changing your mind and your attitude toward Him, toward yourself, and toward your sin, and coming to Him with a sincere desire for mercy, forgiveness, and reconciliation. This made me think of something about repentance that I shared on FaceBook today:
Repentance toward God is about reconciliation, not about making yourself worthy enough to be accepted by Him. The Lord will take any sincere heart that is convicted of sin, but understands His love, and wants to be reconciled to Him. That is the essence of repentance. It's not an establishment of a religion, but the restoration of a relationship.
This is what I believe spiritual giants of the past such as Augustine of Hippo, Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Wesley, Charles Spurgeon, and D.L. Moody were trying to communicate.
Would you agree with me Brother Ryan? I would love to hear your thoughts. God bless you!
In Christ....

Ryan, if 1 john 1:9 is written for unbelievers, then you are saying that a requirement for salvation is to confess your sins - all of them.
For salvation, it is necessary to realize that sin exists and that you are a sinner, but no where does the bible say we must confess our sins for salvation, unless you interpret this one scripture the way you are.
Curious if you believe you must "repent of your sins" to be saved as well?
I think this is a difficult verse and presents challenges for any interpretation. As I read the verse, the phrase "forgive us our sins" is very troubling. I believe in the gospel as Paul preached it (death/burial/resurrection) and trust Christ as savior. I am therefore forgiven of all my sins.
As a believer, the Lord would not need to forgive my sins again since they are already forgiven. Though I believe for continued good fellowship, perhaps we do need to ask forgiveness, and this forgiveness given is not the eternal kind?
And yet, your interpretation is not satisfactory either since it appears you must "confess your sins" to be saved by your teaching. -
Have you considered Jesus washing the disciples feet and how it goes with 1john 1:9? or was that for unbelievers too? The fact that John says we and not you indicates it is written to believers... just saying....

Hello Ryan,
Please read the following scripture, Romans 7:14-25 KJV
14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
God bless. -
In order to forgive sins, BLOOD needs to be present. It makes sense since 1 John 1:7 says that HIS BLOOD cleanses us from ALL sin. Verse 8 states that if we SAY we have no sin, we deceive ourselves... (Gnostics used to say that). 1 John 1:9 should be read with the Gospel lens. The Blood of Jesus cleanses us from sin, not our daily confession.

1 John 1:9 when properly understood actually says: If we (believers) confess our sins, he is faith and just to forgive us (believers) our (confessed sins), and to cleanse us (believers) from all unighteousness.
The writer of the Epistle of 1 John is indentifying himself with others by the use of the pronouns "we" "our" "us"
This thought starts out from the very onset of this Epistle when the writer make it clear who the pronouns "we" and "our" is in reference to.
1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we beheld, and our hands handled, concerning the Word of life
This is evidence that it's not possible in context for the pronouns ""our" and "us" in this Epistle is referring to unbelievers.
Just look at the many times those pronouns are used in 1 John 1 alone, and see in context who is being referred to.
Context matters -
Mishandled the life out of that verse. Oh dear, oh dear.

Praise God! Heb.10:9-23. Thank you Ryan Rufus. I've heard another teaching on this verse whereby people think it means that when we do sin (not that sinning is what a Christian spiritually wants to do) that it should give us comfort in that confessing our sins to our Heavenly Father, we again are (relationship-wise) put 'right' with God. These are nice, loving, Christian brothers and sisters. However, my problem with that rendering of 1 JN 1:9, is manifold. If the Apostle(?) John is speaking to "Born Again" believers in Jesus Christ then it gives us the power to keep ourselves righteous before God and that is impossible. What if they sin and forget about it? Is their relationship with God broken until they remember each and every sin and confess it? Christian or non-Christian alike still sin. There is no sin so small that it isn't worthy of death. If we can't depend on the many promises from God concerning the full efficacious, vicarious, finished work of Jesus Christ, along with ALL the benefits this free Gift from God entails, then we're ALL in deep trouble. Our Redemption,Salvation, Righteousness of Christ Himself,Sanctification, liberty, unconditional love of God, grace of God, eternal life, etc.. would be suspect to us all the time. Such a false rendering of this verse also throws out many more Scriptural promises. One especially comes to mind (keeping this verse in it's context of Hebrews 10) is Hebrews 10: 17 which clearly states.. AND THEIR SINS AND INIQUITIES WILL I REMEMBER NO MORE. We are still in this sinful flesh and our righteousness is in Jesus Christ alone. Yes, we are sorry when we sin but I'm so glad and thankful that I can go on in my Christian life because of Jesus Christ alone and because of what He accomplished for us. I would be more afraid of thinking I could add anything to what our risen Savior already did Himself to make me "right" with God forever! So again, thank you for using exegesis in this teaching and keeping this verse(1JN 1:9) in it's Holy Spirit inspired context! You should check out some other great Saints of God here on YouTube. Let me drop a few names on you (if you're interested) that teach much the same as you and are just a pure joy to hear and to get to know. Ryan is exactly correct. Only self righteous heretics believe they need to perform works and sin less and less to maintain salvation. They are evil and deceived and full of pride and merit. He is right. Lordship Salvationists want you to believe your performance determines and maintains your salvation, then they can control, manipulate, and have power over you, and make you feel guilty all the days of your life. They are wicked pharisees and deny the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.... Good job Ryan............

MR NOTHING below is not even Born Again, He is a satanic heretic that preaches LORDSHIP SALVATION. The fool needs to repent before he takes his last breath. He cause divisions among weak Christians and leads them astray. He is a heretic.
