Preached at Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rocklin, California on the Fourth Sunday After Pentecost, June 12, 2016, by Pastor John-Paul Meyer. Sermon Text: Luke 5:1-11 Sermon Theme: “Jesus Does the Unlikely” Old Testament: Isaiah 6:1-8 Epistle: Galatians 1 Corinthians 14:12-20 Holy Gospel: Luke 5:1-11 Jesus Does The Unlikely What would it be like to see Jesus face to face? Most of us would be thrilled to have that opportunity. It would be a greater thrill than seeing our favorite star or hero! Or would it? Isaiah got that chance in our Old Testament lesson in the year King Uziah died. Instead of a thrill it terrified him (Isaiah 6:5). Peter had a similar experience and was not ready to ask for Jesus’ autograph (Luke 5:8). We like Jesus the man and feel He is very approachable. Yet, this man is God in the flesh. It is another thing to think of seeing God face to face. That is who we see when we see Jesus and when we hear His voice.
