Canto della Risurrezione di San Nerses “Il Grazioso” (XII secolo), tagh, 2º mode dzayn. Nor dzaghig baydzar tsoutsav, aysor i nor kèrèzmanén. Aim of the AKN choir (‘eye’ in classical Armenian language) is to revive and develop the performance of traditional Armenian liturgical chant, especially the sharagan (hymns, tropes) that make the vast majority of the traditional repertoire. AKN performs this monophonic repertoire, that includes also psalmody (recitative and melismatic) and other chants, in its original form, using the drone. This piece, of the genre tagh in its multivocal and melismatic form, celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus: A new blooming flower has burst upon us from a new tomb. The concert took place as part of the series ‘Voice and Sound of Prayer 1’ at the conclusion of the Seminar on the ‘Armenian Liturgical Chant’, organized by Girolamo Garofalo in cooperation with the Venice Armenian Cultural Studies and Documentation Centre and Congregazione Armena Mechitarista.
