This piece, also known as the 'Litany of Supplication', is from 'Liturgica Domestica' by Aleksandr Tikhonov Grechaninov. It was recorded in the 1920s by Fyodr Chaliapin with the choir of the Russian Metropolitan Church in Paris, under N P Alfonsky. I played this at my mother's funeral. The '78 record has been in my family for at least 60 years.

This could never be sung in church, a local church. But this is a wonderful example of pre revolutionary singing litney. It begins ' " Glory to Thee our God Glory to thee"

@ivmayb This recording is special. The organ was used for this concert performance of the Litany. True, this is not the way it would be sung in Church.They are praying for God`s guidance and protection .
@SlavicMaleChorus It's not 100% Russian Orthodox singing because R.O. does not use catholic organum. This is Russian immigrants are crying about own motherland.
