This is so on point! Thank you. I'm suffering from clinical depression and taking medications. Some people from my church actually said, "there's no way you should be depressed because you have Jesus in your life, we don't have to suffer anymore" and my friends and I got agitated because we clearly know it says otherwise in the bible. But we just tried to understand them and yeah T_T. I'm still fighting and got support from very few friends. This video encouraged me a lot. Thank you so much!

I have personally fought depression throughout high school and, although depression is biological and medication does help, I feel that it is also a spiritual battle. Mental illnesses exist because of sin and depression is a way for the enemy to sneak into your life and take you down. You can't just "be happy" or "think positive" like many try to tell you. It is a constant fight and it's worth overcoming. Let God be your foundation no matter what you are feeling.

I have been a Christian all of my life and I was raised with this preconceived idea that Christians were always happy. Last year I was diagnosed with clinical depression after someone I loved dearly went home in heaven. It was the hardest battle I ever fought but I remember watching Jon's ADTW videos and I did Bible study. Those Bible studies really helped me; I had weapons with which I could fight the dark with. I was on medication for 6 months, most people use it for longer, but I made a mental choice that I don't need them anymore - I needed to experience the world again. The worst was over and God guided me through the rest and he still does.
There is life and I feel that the spirit of depression will continuously try entrap the victim again and again. Stay steadfast, read the Word everyday and pray for deliverance.
Hey Jon, there's this book called "Questions Christians hope no one will ask" It's a great book by Mark Mittleberg and I think it would be a good topic for a seven minute sermon series. Even if you choose not to, I would highly recommend reading as it helps us to be prepared in answering a lot of questions that have prevented people from turning to Christ.

This is great :) Hey Jon could you talk about social anxiety?
When I hear someone saying things like "If you REALLY believe in God HARD ENOUGH, you should have no problems!", I think of it as blasphemy. Simply because it contradicts the bible, considering how many major figures from it had a rough life.
You mentioned King David. But also Moses had it rough, Abraham had it rough, Jona had it rough and let us not forget our old buddy Job and the prophets.... And lets move onto the new testament: Most of the apostles suffered martyrdom after getting arrested and thrown into jail when trying to preach.
If I am not mistaken there is a letter in which Paul writes that him and his companions "despaired life", under the pressure from the Romans. Which today could be translated as saying "Our situation really sucked!"
And let us not forget the major character in the bible: JESUS! Not even Jesus was spared from hardships, he was betrayed by his friends and tortured before crucified. And he was the MESSIAH! He was the SON OF GOD! He of all people should have been spared from hardships, but nope!
So if anyone claim that we should not suffer because we are christians, a valid question would be "Are we better than Jesus?´" Because we have to be if we expect our lives to be problem-free.... And that is also a way to trying to become a god, which is not good either.

No, instead praise God for giving you the strenght to go through hardships.
Praise God for what he did for us by sending Jesus.
Praise God for loving us even though we don't necessarily deserve it.
Give thanks to the Lord for his promise that he will be with us to the end of time.

Also,read Psalm 23. :) its my favorite psalm. I am trying to memorize it so I can whip it out when I am in a depressed state.

Depression is like cancer. It starts small and grows larger and we must fight to overcome it. We should do a walk for depression.
