Date: December 28, 2008 Scripture: John 16:16--24 Series: The Gospel of John http://www.desiringgod.org/resource-library/sermons/put-in-the-fire-for-the-sake-of-prayer John 16:16--24 "A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me." 17 So some of his disciples said to one another, "What is this that he says to us, 'A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me'; and, 'because I am going to the Father'?" 18 So they were saying, "What does he mean by 'a little while'? We do not know what he is talking about." 19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, "Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, 'A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me'? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. 21 When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. 23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full."

Does the bible tell us to talk to the devil as John suggested at 36:00 ??🤔

The reason for prayer is not for physical benefit, but for getting to know this magnificent immutable God, an intimate knowledge of Him and His reason for my existence. Difficult circumstance that come our way, God utilizes to refine us and draw us closer in our union with Him. Typically when we pray, we are seeking to appease the flesh, the fallen nature, for selfish purposes, and this is not really praying, is simply wishful desire similar to wanting to win the lottery. Prayer is to know God, and should He will to heal the circumstance that is an additional benefit He has given, not because we deserve or have earned, but all for His honor and glory!

I submit to you that prayer is not a duty, but a glorious privilege when it is God the Holy Spirit that possesses the heart of the individual, and He creates in you the insatiable desire to ever be at the footstool of the Father, ever in the unceasing desire to bring honor and glory to Him, an everlasting joy, a feasting at His banqueting table. a rhapsody of love bestowed on the willing heart, this new creation in Christ Jesus!

Read Matthew 28:29 Where he says Go baptize Then Acts 2:38. Then Talk to me once over, and I shall open your eyes. if Gods grace be so.

It is not that which you speak, it is that which is said, and if that which is said is sour, the words are sour, and if that which is said give attention to the ear of he who listens and is always thinking, then the speak is increasing the brain power of the listener. Jesus bless you Amen

Do you talk like that or write like that all the time?it is difficult to understand because the words you are using are antiquated.. I was just wondering okay. God bless you

Prayer is essential. Without prayer is like shutting the electricity from a light bulb. I have seen God answered prayers and even some of the ones I have said. like praying for the sick, the broken, and intercession. Faith, prayer, and the Word go together. Jesus said believe what you prayed for like you already have received..now that is faith. According God's will he will answer prayer. God bless you.

"The best year of prayer you've ever known." I've learned a long time ago that prayer is perhaps the most useless exercise that one could ever engage in. I've been saved for more than 20 years, and if there's one thing that one can depend upon besides the nature of eternal security...is a completely ignored prayer life. God is shockingly indifferent to the prayers of His children; to which He routinely demonstrates a dismissive spirit. I like wise, am also indifferent to His wishes as a result.

I tell you the truth, if you did not hear the sound of God when ye be baptized into the name Jesus and thereby the person Jesus then ye are not saved and must repent and believe Jesus is LORD
-
Truly I say unto you, there will be false messiah's to come soon. and they shall say "I am the Christ" but believe not lest ye also fall into the snare of devils. For there is one God. Christ is God in the flesh. And he is God in the Heaven and he is God in the Holy Ghost. REPENT - Believe - Be Baptized in water and spirit. In the name of Jesus. Or ye shall not taste forever lasting life. Shall ye believe the men of our day? Or the apostles who baptised and saved according to the Christ?

Lucifer = Seven letters. Not until the English took Heele and changed it in the King James making Lucifer seven in the end times. you do know the LORD saith WATCH & pray right?
-
Think ye not that thou Saint Paul saith If any angel of the LORD should come preaching any other gospel ??? doth not the Lord say: Satan transromrs himself into an angel of light? and who's name, and the bible takes names as the person has he stolen out of the Scriptures? Rev says "I shall give him a new name" Jesus' parables talk of a "lost sheep" know ye not the teachings of Christ?

Fear is not the motivating tool of an all-loving God. Atheists ask legitimate questions, which theists have no answers for. And just because I don't believe that God grants prayer requests doesn't make me an atheist - only that I see God differently than you do. You don't know why the things I asked about happen, and are just content to explain it as "God's ways are not our ways" or that these things are all part of some cosmic plan we can't know. I believe in a God which does not intervene.
-
We're talking about prayer here, though. Explain to me how it works that God heals only Christians, yet Christians are no healthier than Jews or Muslims or Atheists. Explain to me how a loving God will cure your backache, but not your churchmate's baby's leukemia. Why does a God of love allow some babies to grow up with major mental or physical defects, or let them die with no intervention? And don't say "free will" because infants do nothing on their own free will to contract birth defects.

"Ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." Baloney! Ask for world peace. Not going to happen. Ask God to end hunger. Not going to happen. Atheists get healed of their sicknesses at the same rate as Baptists. "God is angry without Jesus." I get angry every time this windbag opens his mouth. We need to wake up and realize that a God of love will not abandon 3/4 of the world just because they are not Christian. And that God is not "up there" somewhere, waiting to grant our petitions.

you should change your name, brother in the Lord.
