@mvdbergrede From Chritian website, "Paul is referring to this sinful nature when he states, "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing" (Romans 7:18For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not."

@Brandon Cleave In the same way that one “good” act doesn’t make you perfectly good, one “bad” act doesn’t make you wholly bad. We are NOT guilty enough to deserve burning forever or to death. Do you really think that a god sacrificed himself unto himself to appease himself?

John 3 : 16

According to Christianity, God didn't create people with a sinful nature. He created good humans, but they fell into sin by their own fault. Why should God be held responsible for what we do?
-
What kind of intelligent or loving being would create beings with a sin nature, then expect the beings to act differently from that nature? How could such a "god" NOT be held completely responsible for such a system? "God" didn't create us perfect. The christian god certainly isn't perfect. My original quote was to make you think. LIfe isn't supposed to be dominated by guilt. Life is supposed to be participatory.

@inhalejesus They do not insist I believe in supernatural phenomenon. They insist I think for myself and question. I appreciate your questions. I must ask you two. Are humans susceptible to emotionally appealing arguments? Are the main religions mutually incompatible?
-
@inhalejesus Religion “is rigid. It begins with works of fiction and proceeds to asserting, insisting, [and] twisting the facts.” My reading and study of Dawkins ect IS different from religion. My belief system in essence is very much NOT like a religion. I do not bow down to any of the writers. They don’t insist I worship anyone. They don’t insist I blindly accept one very flawed book.
-
@inhalejesus That being said, I DO very much think people would have a more accurate and healthy perception of reality if they accepted their beliefs on evidence and not on blind faith. When my views are challenged, that enables me to grow. I hope my understanding of reality evolves the more others and I interact. Ideas get tested, discussed, and improved. “Good science changes as we learn more. It begins with observation. Then moves to hypothesis, testing, and debate”.
-
@inhalejesus Thank you. Allow me to deconstruct your first loaded question. First, I do believe that people should have the freedom to believe what they want. I am not claiming that my meaning is perfect or the only way one can have any sort of meaning. That, sir, IS objectively and precisely what religions do. One’s personal meaning is subjective and dependent on the individual.

@JACKSCHEESYSMILE appreciate your service .. so do you believe that people can only have a meaningful life if they abide by your belief system or philosophy and free themselves from the pangs of 'religion'? How is your reading of and being taught by (dawkins, hawkins, etc) any different than a religious person being influenced by his/her religious text.. Isn't your belief system in essence very much like a religion?
-
@inhalejesus I like helping others. Just because I lack belief in supernatural concepts doesn't make my life less meaningful, it makes it more. I do like the philosophical entertainer Alan Watts. He offers spirituality to nonbelievers. Thanks for the question.
-
@ inhalejesus Most of my time is spent working in the military. But I assume you are curious as to whether I have a deeper meaning to my life or not. Well obviously, I like debating with others which sharpens my wits AND theirs. (Dialectic). I like dispelling superstition and believe people can think for themselves and be free from religion. I believe concepts like human solidarity are powerful (how else did we get where we are?).
-
@JACKSCHEESYSMILE What is your purpose in life?
-
@thugz4sale “I sense there is a deeper issue behind what you’re saying”. I think you haven’t critiqued your beliefs at all, but feel the need to patronize me with your narcissist unfounded beliefs in order to make yourself feel better. Please watch Qualiasoup, nonstampcollector, Hitchens, Harris, Dawkins, or better yet read your bible in order to undeceive yourself. I “hope this helps”.
-
@thugz4sale Believing that a being set up the universe with the ultimatum of a heaven or a hell as a consequence for the petty action of either groveling over the one out of many correct god or simply lacking belief in this supposed correct god is maddening. How can you say that Yahweh is “the source of good and love”? Deut 22:28-29, Deut 32:41-42, Exod 32:26-29, Ezek 9:6, Num 31, 1 John 4:8, Luke 19:26-27.
-
@thugz4sale By “his son” I am assuming you also mean “him” which is another blatant problem with your religion. God=the son=the ghost=none of the above bc their actually all different. By “payed for our sin” you are talking about how god “sacrificed himself unto himself to appease [surprise] himself.” These myths are Bronze Age superstition and sadism.
-
@thugz4sale You claim that god gave me "free will" which implies that I can make good and/or bad decisions, but then say any and all of my "good deeds are saturated with pride and sin". Well which is it? Can I make free decisions or can’t I? So I can freely and inevitable will do sinful actions, but any and all good actions aren’t really my own? What are you talking about!? Notice how your concepts of free will and sin nature are mutually exclusive.
-
@thugz4sale Wow. I daresay, your reply is of monumental ignorance sir. Within the same book of claiming it “was good”, your god flooded the planet didn't he? Asserting a being that cares about human welfare would "implement" a "curse" to scare us into everlasting bondage and having the audacity to label it as "love" is an insult to human decency and solidarity.
-
@inhalejesus Cos we are sinners, that's really bad!
