http://seattleunity.org—Reverand Karen Lindvig's sermon "A Woman's Voice" explores Mother's Day as both a celebration of mothers everywhere, and the yearning for peace instead of war and cooperative aspects of femininity as the initial inspiration behind Mother's Day and its author Julia Ward Howe. Karen describes the biological changes that motherhood brings to each woman who has children, and the funny aspects of the preferences we have for a woman's voice in our computers and smart phones. She also documents through scripture how Mary, mother of Jesus, encouraged him to start his ministry through his first miracle—turning water into wine at a wedding ceremony. Key quotations relating to this sermon: Dalai Lama: "Women have a special capacity to lead us to a more peaceful world with compassion, affection and kindness." Julia Ward Howe Mother's Day Proclamation in 1870: "Arise then . . . women of this day! Arise, all women who have hearts! From the bosom of a devastated Earth a voice goes up with our own. It says: 'Disarm! Disarm'" John 2:3: "When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, 'They have no more wine.' Woman, why do you involve me?' Jesus replied. 'My hour has not yet come.' His mother said to the servants, 'Do whatever he tells you.'" Key points to think about deeply: 1. The Divine Feminine is Creative Power. May all mothers use their power to encourage their children and give them wings to fly. 2. The qualities of the Divine Feminine are strength, courage, wisdom and compassion. The world needs these gifts. The world needs this voice.
