Lesley Hazleton: A "tourist" reads the Koran
El contenido de la fe, para escuchar,
http://www.ted.com Lesley Hazleton sat down one day to read the Koran. And what she found -- as a non-Muslim, a self-identified "tourist" in the Islamic holy book -- wasn't what she expected. With serious scholarship and warm humor, Hazleton shares the grace, flexibility and mystery she found, in this myth-debunking talk from TEDxRainier. TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. This woman is the real alive model of the idea 'you do not have to be a muslim to understand the Quran properly'. "But, only pure minded people can comprehend it"

What a bunch of woo woo. I don't like any religions but Islam is unique in its ability to promote violence above all others. Islam is inherently political (more than religions where you should "give to Caesar what is Caesar's") - in most Muslim majority countries some form of Sharia or Islamic law is rigidly enforced. And no, no form of sharia is "progressive" and good for vulnerable members of society.

First time I ve ever watched a speach so proudly and informatical
-
Finally someone as an outsider truly read the Quran, instead to blame Islam and Quran for mad peoples like ISIS.
-
Thanks for this objective and clear presentation of the Koran. It makes someone who never read it, read it with an openminded point of view.
That's what we need in a world divided by confusion and ignorance. -
So many misconceptions majority of which are created by dreaded politicians and news hungry media . I hope people study Islam and will eventually then realize the beauty of this faith. Are the hate mongers listening......

The quaran is less important than the death and destruction it inspires in the people who take it literally. Ah, the lovely cadences as you read in Arabic to cut off the hands and feet of the thief, kill the unbeliever, stone the adulterer. Pure poetry! I guess some people prefer poetry to democracy, liberty, and free speech. Yuck!

The Quran is less important that the death and destruction it has inspired. But she likes it, so go figure...
-
she's amazing
-
Thank you lady for truly reading the Quran with an open mind instead of saying you read the Quran and all you did was google it like most people who says they read the Quran.
-
My God how sickening.
-
This is all interesting, but it's meaningless when people will interpret the quaran how they want to anyway.

calm and brilliant , really interesting .

Her voice caliber is like V from Vendetta

"taking out of context [of Quran]... by both fundamentalists and anti-Muslim islamophobes." This is the summary of what Muslims (or as the West cluelessly refers to them, "moderate" Muslims) suffer throughout the world. I am an ex-Muslim Turkish atheist and I know that the religion of my youth is not what these two sick mentalities portray it to be.

she's so open minded
-
So you're not obligated to kill apostates, but if you did, God will shrug it off.
Wow, that IS different from what we were led to believe.. -
Guys dont you see that she is not actually defending islam, she just shares what she found in 10 minutes on the most popular way.i am sure she has additional things.she just does her job in the most scientific way.if she thought islam is the way she would convert herself, isn't she?

5mins in and Lesley is still bragging about reading a book, as if that is some amazing feat... still awaiting a claim or interesting fact.
6mins -Ah finally a claim. ''Killing unbelievers is out of context'' Tell that to ISIS, they are telling us the context continues on because Mohammed's time was 'perfect'. Your interpretation of when Quranic orders should be done is not relevant Lesley.
Quite a boring talk with very little substance
