Jesus commands us to love our enemies. But how do we do this? We should ask how God's Word describes love. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 is instructive: 1. Be patient with your enemies. 2. Be kind to your enemies. 3. Do not envy your enemies. 4. Do not boast against your enemies. 5. Humble yourself before your enemies. 6. Do not be rude to your enemies. 7. Do not delight in the evil of your enemies. 8. Rejoice with the truth of your enemies. 9. Always protect your enemies. 10. Always trust your enemies. 11. Always be hopeful toward your enemies. 12. Always persevere with your enemies. 13. Never fail your enemies. Does this sound foolish? What about Hitler and the Nazis? What about self defense and protecting our loved ones? Remember, Jesus also taught that those who want to save their life will lose it, but those who lose their life for Him will find it. The last will be first. The least will be greatest. Our definition of success is not always the same as Jesus'. Will loving our enemies this way succeed? Yes! Love never fails!!
