Matt Whitman Ruins Treasured Verses of the Bible (2 Chronicles 7:14) | No. 7

2 Chronicles 7:14 is the verse I very often used to quote when making the point that America needs to clean up its act in order for God to make it great again. People following God together in huge groups is a great thing, and it would be great if America changed as a country, but the passage doesn’t seem to have America in view (or any other nation besides Old Testament Israel for that matter).

Aren't you basically critiquing the technique of pesher, i.e. assuming there is some deeper level to read the text at, which is what much of the New Testament writers do with the Hebrew Bible?
-
so we shouldn't apply the Bible to our lives today because it was written to others long ago? sorry but I strongly disagree. why even read it?

You totally wusses out on including the GOP joke on this. I feel the need to call you out on that.

Is there such a thing as a Christian who also believes in Aliens?

Is this the last ruined verses episode?
This episode reminds me of the old "golden telephone" joke about Yorkshire and it's variants. -
Great video and I can appreciate the discussion it brings up. If you are interested in a contrasting point of view I would highly recommend the book "The Covenant" by Timothy Ballard http://goo.gl/GZdodj
EDITED: fixed grammar, and there are the first few pages of the book on amazon's website you can read before buying it. -
brave man showing off your college id photo...
And friction is a good word for it. America seems so politically polarized these days. (I'm Canadian, btw).
How do we instead bring people more together?? I think that's a big struggle for these times.
thanks for the videos! -
Great commentary, Matt! Even beyond the context of the verse, I never understood how the verse really logically applied to legislating non-Christians anyway... That doesn't seem like "His people" "humbling themselves". Thanks for the great series!

I am going to destroy your argument with another verse: Proverbs 14: 34 (drops mic and walks away)
