Sermon by Pastor Todd Riley of Islington Baptist Church on March 10, 2013 Chapter 5:11-31 - The Problem of Adultery & Cheating For more details of the sermon, please http://islingtonbaptistchurch.ca/Numbers5.html QUESTIONS, THOUGHTS, PRINCIPLES arising from Numbers 5:11-31 1. The number one question people have of the text is "Why is there no test for an unfaithful husband?" 2. While some think it is, the test of Numbers 5 is NOT related to the evil practice of "trial by ordeal"--- such being practiced for 1000's of years on every continent and in many different cultures 3. The consequence of the text-- infertility, and public shame- sounds pretty intense v.27 4. As strange as it might seem to our ears, the instructions of Numbers 5:11-31 would have served to protect women of that era 5. Jealousy- while not necessarily a bad/wrong thing- sometimes has a dark and scary side 6. Adultery comes with consequences 7. Keep the marriage bed pure! 8. Are you married? Do all you can to build and strengthen your marriage
