Christ wants us to be one, and one time we were. Rome is stained & brought to her knees many times through no fault of her own, but by the corruption of the leadership within her. We pray &beg for healing & mercy and forgiveness, even today, as liturgical abuses continue. But the Pope of Rome has always been & will always be the true descendant of St. Peter, rightfully sharing the title " one holy catholic and apostolic church" with her Orthodox brethren. +peace be with u+

Great observation! Notice also that when Eastern prelates attend the Roman Rite Mass, they retain their Eastern liturgical vestments. I believe this is a beatiful way of expressing unity in diversity. For sure JP2 made the signum crucis from left to right during this Divine Liturgy while the the Eastern hierarch signed themselves with the cross in the traditional Eastern way from Right to Left. Nothing wrong nor abnormal about this.

Why is JPII not vested in Ukrainian vestments?

You have Old, Traditional, and Independent Catholic groups not under the pope.

The Eastern Orthodox are the true church. Simply put. There existed one church, the same doctrines, teachings and theology. In 451 the Oriental Orthodox split from this one church after the Councils of Chalcedon. In 1054 Rome separated from this one church . This one church is the Orthodox Church. Unified in doctrines, theology and teachings. In the West you had the Protestant Reformation in 1517, splitting from Rome and the Anglican Church in 1534 splitting from Rome.

The ultramontanism movement in the middle ages further infiltrated the Latin church with papal universal authority and power. They achieved victory over the synodal or conciliarism at the First Vatican Council. Peter was a leader amongst the Apostles not over them. To imply that he had some sort of authority is not factual. The Synods in Jerusalem indicate this. St. James presided over these Synods, and church matters were decided on a consensus basis.
-
The Orthodox have had many other councils after the 7th Ecumenical Council. The pope never had authority in the early church. Each bishop had control over his own jurisdiction. It wasn't until 756 with the Franks political power and influence in the Latin church, that gave political rise of papal authority.

No. Constantinople was called the "new" Rome.
-
...or a few months ago the question of Estonia between the Patriarchs of Constantinople and Moscow, who had risked to blow up the Communion between the Russian and the Greek Church. Note: the Orthodox still use the Patriarch of Constantinople as the visible representative of this Communion of Churches, however this Episcopal See is called SECOND ROME.

The Pope still carries out its role of unity in the Church. The Orthodox Churches, however without the Pope, show a deficit of unity, it is not clear who infact are the true Orthodox Churches, if they are the Orientals (Copts, Armenians, Ethiopians ...), or the Easterns (Greeks, Russians, Serbs, Romanians ...), even between the same groups Easterns, there are enmities as in the case of the Church of Macedonia and of Serbia...

But it is only Peter the first of the Apostles which presides over others. Jesus calls Peter in the list of the Apostles of the Gospel of Matthew 10:2-3, the First, and in the Gospel of John 21:15-17 Jesus says to him: "Feed my lambs" "Tend my sheep" "Feed my sheep" This means a dual mandate to not only feed the flock as all the bishops, but also its Pastors, and infact was always Peter that confirmed in the faith, the other Apostles (Luke 22:31-32).

This Synodical system, still exists, the Catholic Church has made many more councils of the Orthodox Church that recognizes only 7. The Orthodox Church has the system of the patriarchs and popes, who are those who preside in the local synods, even the Catholic Church has these synods, but he who presides over and in the all world is the Bishop of Rome, the Pope The title of Pope, is not his importance, also the bishop of Alexandria is called the Pope...
-
The early church in Rome had no pope. It was a synod of bishops that decided on church matters. The word "pope" was not exclusively used for the bishop of Rome until the 9th Century. The infallibility and authority of the pope was a political move, which came much later and deviates from the early church. The Orthodox still practice the synodal from of deciding on church matters. Rome has deviated from this and has added heretical dogmas.

The head of the Catholic Church is Christ, but his representative on earth is the Pope, has always been so since the beginning of Christianity. The Pope that is the Bishop of Rome, in the person of Peter presides in charity. This said also St. Ignatius of Antioch. The Orthodox know this, but do not admit it.
-
ORTHODOXY OR DEATH! Down with arch-heretic pope!
-
AS YOU SAY: POPE IS HEAD OF CATHOLIC CHURCH.....BUT GOD-JESUS IS HEAD OF THE ORTHODOX CHURCH!
-
NOOOOOOOOOOO, WE ARE NOT IN ANY COMUNION WITH ROME OR ANY OF ITS CRAZY POPES!!! NEVER WAS, NEVER WILL BE!!!

Ojala algun día catolicos y ortodoxos se unan de nuevo para siempre.
