Namaste is said with both the palms held together with the thumbs pressing against the soft spot between the rib cage. This is no Mumbo Jumbo. There is profound science involved here(as with anything involving Indian Culture). Search for 'Mudras' in a search engine of your choice.

Namaste: we are on par
Namaste is an Indian way of greeting, with hands held together, head bowed slightly downward, and eyes often closed. It can be used with or without words; regardless, it executes a powerful massage—a humbling gesture that says “The divinity within me salutes to the divinity within you.” For the benefit of atheists and people of other faiths, I would word it differently: “You are okay, I am okay” or “we are on par.” For my Indian brethren, I will make it even simple- “Aav bhai Harkha, aapne b u sarkha.” When you Namaste, you accept the person for whatever he/she is. Namaste means the new beginning.
Every culture has a unique way of greeting one another. However, some greeting gestures call for physical contact which seems downright awkward, say, disgusting. They violate someone’s personal space and put people on edge. Namaste avoids awkwardness.
The traditions and rituals of other cultures or religions may sound absurd, flat, or downright stupid to people of other faiths or cultures. However if understood, they will find beauty, insight, and time-tested wisdom in it.
Putting in a nutshell-
Namaste needs no reform and comes with many fringe benefits. It is:
Beyond the class system and does not spread viruses
Old, not outdated, wholesome, utterly authentic.
Time-tested, timeless and time-honored.
Does not violate anyone’s space.
Graceful and humbling.
Decent--divine.
Kosher
Cool.
In real sense Namaste reflects the sentiment of President Lincoln, - “All men are created equal. His statement is known as an immortal declaration, and "perhaps single phrase" of the American Revolutionary period with the greatest "continuing importance.” The message of President Lincoln and the message of Namaste validates each other. Then it is only fitting to adopt Namaste as a universal symbol for greeting one another that removes the class-system and heralds, -we are on par. Let us tie the ‘immortal declaration’ and the humbling symbol of the most ancient civilization together and yet take it to the new height. That way, his message will continually tick in the hearts of every civilian of this free world like a Timex watch. As I see, this can play a significant role uniting all civilians of our global village and harmonious living.
The beauty of Namaste greeting is that it eliminates social stratification that is present in every aspect of living. Any subordinate such as children, employee, ordinary civilian or laborer could use Namaste gesture to greet the higher authority such as parents, boss, teacher, king, and queen included and vice versa. It promotes the mutual respect. After all, one race: a human race, and one color: color red.
For last few decades, Namaste has earned respect and has become a way of life for people of other cultures. Pastor of Macadamia church, Eddie Smith, was so taken by its meaning that he has incorporated ‘Namaste’ as a part of their daily service in his church.
In America, 15 million Americans suffer from Social anxiety disorder [SAD] call touch phobia- fear of being touched or touching? It prevents them from leading normal social and romantic lives. Namaste can bring relief to them as this gesture eliminates physical contact. It can be used from a distance and as often as one wishes. It is a gesture suitable for 1:1 greeting also appropriate to use from behind the podium to greet the crowd.
A friend of mine shared her experience of giving a hug to a young girl. She had no knowledge that she was a victim of sexual abuse. The hug startled the young girl and threw her out of balance. Practice Namaste.
Namaste means honor, honor everything we see, smell, touch feels and consume, all species and each other. To a devout Hindu, the universe is a place of worship and everything in it is worthy of our reverence. If we consider the earth a mother, then the sun is our father. The cosmic union of the sun and the earth makes everything possible. Without son, the earth cannot produce anything. Is it too much to pause for a moment, stretch your hands and honor our father? No sun no life. No sun No internet.
The world has become a global village, the concept that is deep rooted in Hinduism has become a reality. Today, by various means and modes people of different cultures and countries are working and living together. Need to be open, understand and appreciative of other cultures is greater than ever before.
In my view, culture is like a small stream, coming down from a mountain top, constantly growing and changing its size and shape, always moving forward, living its impurity behind, giving life to all- and finally merging in bigger water, losing its existence, never looking back, never complaining.
Moreover, no culture has ever remained intact, and the culture that does not change is like a stagnant pond.
Hinduism can be reduced to few words- respect-honor-gratitude-compassion. The cardinal message of Hinduism is to pose and pay daily gratitude to each other, to every living species and the nature at large. Worshiping of nature is an innovation of a refined, civilized and highly evolved minds.
Respect and gratitude alone will heighten the quality of life. It is a foundation to harmonious and joyful life.
Make gratitude a way of life. Practice compassion. Walk with woods. Eat gummy-bear.
The following statement of Rumi sums up all I said,-
“Wear gratitude like a cloak, and it will feed every corner of your life.”
With respect and the feeling of gratitude, I welcome you all inside the peaceful world of Namaste; to those I know and to those I have yet to meet. -
thanks for this video footage.

Why are people being so ignorant and racist in their comments? You are missing the point. This is about love and the highest regard one human can have toward another. So kudos to you for understanding that the word is Sanskrit and may have origins from people with less melanin; now perhaps you can work on learning the meaning and application of this word. Blessings and enlightenment to you.

. . . . as if Indians of the Hindu faith were "white".

Wonderful--Yes Namaste is great word but we are habituated to use meaning less words Hi..... Hello.....its time to make whole world say namaste instead of Hi...Bye
-
te is the dative enclitic of tvam (you). Instead of Namah Shiv-aaya (the -aaya part means dative), you say Namas te, if you wish to address another person instead of Shiva. Namas means "honour to", or say the name of, call out in honour. It is "very well understood" by religious folk that te refers to Aatman, but do you realize that is folk etymology? Please don't ruin a beautiful language with "divine" stuff. Sanskrit is a beautiful consistent language, so learn it. "utter nonsense" indeed.

Thanks to Pastor to explain me the meaning of Namaste!

Namaste is the easiest way of greeting, instead of searching/deciding for good morning or afternoon or evening or night.
