hello
-
Try reading and saying it in lashron kodesh( Hebrew)...rabbi?

for the sake of HIS NAME, please stop replacing his name with "the LORD"! HIS NAME is qadosh and to be praised! Let's just receive the scriptures as they were written! YaHWeH inspired the word and he ordered his name to be written about 7000 times! Why would we replace it with a word or title of our choosing? As it is commanded in the scriptures, we should read and speak and praise and honor his name! Psalm 23 begins with his qadosh name > "YaHWeH is my shepherd..." By the way, the english title "the Lord" is the equivalent to the hebrew word / name "ha'Baal"!!! "Ha'Baal" translates to "the Lord"!!! Judges 2,13 > "They forsook YaHWeH and became subservient la'Baal (= to the Lord)..." The old Israelites did it and the "Church" is following in their footsteps! Sad!!! "But if serving YaHWeH seems undesirable to you, then choose you this day whom you will serve!...As for me and my house we will serve Yahweh! The people answered and said: Far be it from us that we should forsake YaHWeH to serve other Elohim (mighty ones)."(Yahushua 24,15-16) Psalm 34,3 > "O magnify Yahweh with me, and let us exalt HIS NAME together." + YeremiYah 33,2-3 > "YaHWeH IS HIS NAME! So call out to me and I will answer you and show you great and unfathomable things which you do not know!" + Psalm 135,13 > "YaHWeH, your name endures forever, your remembrance from generation to generation!" Listen to what Mashiach said to those who rejected him > "Behold your house is left unto you! But I am telling you that you will not see me henceforth until it shall be that you will say: Baruk ha'Ba be'Shem Yahweh (Blessed is he who comes in/by the name Yahweh."(MatitYahu 23,39) Shalom

Thank you Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi. The translation is absolutely beautiful and it resounds with what little I have experienced in having Yaweh as my Shepard. I appreciate the corrections too, especially about "surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life" where you explain when the paranoia hits. I find myself seeing what the world calls "bad" as something that God somehow ALWAYS turns around to my benefit. I must remember this when what looks "bad" approaches. And whether I see it or not, it is true. It is goodness and mercy, I do not thirst. Thank you for all of it!

love the rabbi's explanation of my favorite psalm
-
king james bible is great translation but they changed from original Hebrew text to more poetic. 'valley of shadow of death' is 'valley of deepest darkness ' in Hebrew original.
-
Blessings of the Lord.
One of encouraging Psalm. -
23rd Psalm is much loved here n Scotland so your insights were very thought provoking - thank you Rabbi. By the way we have it weddings as well as funerals. I am certain that the humour you display could make much of that :)
