http://seattleunity.org—Rev. Karen Lindvig's sermon is titled "The Sixth Sense" In this month of July, Rev. Karen continues her July focus on humor, under the Annual Theme of "Who Am I Called To Be." In this sermon, Rev. Karen explores the difference between being funny and having a sense of humor. She lists the ways in which humor can help us and illustrates those benefits with funny stories. She also focuses on humor and healing with several examples, equating the development of a sense of humor with the spiritual practices of prayer and meditation. Quotations relevant to this sermon: Sid Caesar: "If you have no tragedy, you have no comedy. Crying and laughing are the same emotion. If you laugh too hard, you cry. And vice versa." Mahatma Gandhi: "If I had no sense of humor, I would long ago have committed suicide." Mawlana Jalal-al-Din-Rumi: "Plant the love of the holy ones within your spirit; Don't give your heart to anything, but the love of those whose hearts are glad. Don't go to the neighborhood of despair; there is hope. Don't go in the direction of darkness; suns exist." Rabbi Sydney Mintz: "When you laugh, aside from the endorphin rush, there's also a spiritual opening. You're not so tight inside yourself. That opening I've found to be a real gift, in being able to absorb spirituality." CREDITS Erin McGaughan's website is:
