Tchaikovsky really knows how to punch a person in the melodic head, and then holds his hand as he travels with the listener through this melodic labyrinth with its own peaks and valleys, taper in hand, eyes forward, ears open.

Lord pray you forgive us, as we are bad! I left the prodigal son and got legions of devils! Bring devils of us Lord Jesus Christ! Have mercy on us! For these voices that rise to you, Lord!

Thank you for this rendition with the Russian Choral !!!
-
Oh the Russian spirit! We tend to think in the West of Russians as "communists"... how far is that from the truth. Russia is one of the most devout nations in history. God bless everyone
-
Contra B at 28:50 is so powerful, wonder how it feels to stand next to the powerful oktavist like here.

Beautiful! Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky was a GENIUS!

It is a pity that this beautiful music seems to bring out the nasty in so many, the judgementalism. Can't we all just enjoy it? A musician might remark on the composition or the arrangement of voices. An aetheist, Buddhist or other might observe how the music moves him or her, and one for whom this music is sacred, part of a
religious tradition has just as much right to remark on that. To each
his own. -
Какая потрясающая красота! Слава Тебе, Господи, слава Тебе!

About religion, until you can prove it is true, keep it to yourself. Religion does not condition music that is hear-able for all audio preferences, as if it expects "a good beat, easy to dance to, so I'll give it an 8."
You might think about putting your opinions about sex, and politics in the same little bin. How little they relate to Tchaikovsky's work in our current age.
About the music, how sonorous, not easily executed, calming and pleasing, measured, ethnically revealing, enjoyable. -
How heavenly beautiful! I do really understand the gretfulness of St. John Chrysostomos in the Orthodox Chruch.

How many singers are in this recording?

A beautiful choral piece whatever your belief system. For me, it is about the beauty of the music and the use of the voice as an instrument. this is a particularly good rendition.
