This sermon gives an overview of the greatest sermon ever preached - The Sermon on the Mount which Jesus delivered on a mountain nearby Capernaum near the Sea of Galilee. The point of the sermon is two-fold: it instructs HOW exactly one gets saved and gains entrance into the Kingdom of God (Seek first Jesus' Kingdom and ASK Jesus for His Righteous) and HOW exactly one builds REWARD in the Kingdom (Love others, even enemies, like you naturally do yourself). Also, Ten prominent view points and interpretations of the Sermon on the Mount are summarized, some debunked, with the last three views that best explain the meaning of the sermon: 1) Christological View - this sermon is an autobiography of how Jesus has accomplished or fulfilled the law of God on our behalf (Romans 8:4) in contrast to us as sinners/lawbreakers cannot save ourselves or earn/deserve salvation since we cannot keep either the letter of the law or the spirit of the law (Romans 2:13, 3:20), 2) Soteriological/Gospel View - this sermon is one of the most complete and compelling presentations of the Biblical Gospel (good news that in the Kingdom we will be comforted, inherit the earth, satisfied, see God, receive mercy, called sons of God, and be rewarded for persecution) - delivered by none other than the King of the Kingdom - Jesus Christ himself (John 14:6), and 3) Holy Living/Rewards View - this sermon instructs disciples/followers of Christ how to store up treasure/reward in heaven and be great in the Kingdom rather than least in the Kingdom - by keeping and teaching the Lord's commandments (Mt 5:19, Mt. 28:18-20, 1 John 5:3). Additionally, the entire sermon is read and explained by its major sections: 1) The Blessings of Entering the Kingdom and Woes of being shut out of the Kingdom (Mt. 5:1-12), 2) Jesus' disciples are the salt and light of the world as the preach the gospel (Mt. 5:13-16), 3) Jesus is the fulfillment of the law for us since none of us can perfectly keep it (Mt. 5:17-20), 4) The Sins of Commission that Condemn us to Hell: Hate, Lust, Integrity Violations, Retaliation (Mt. 5:17-48), 5) The Sins of Omission - Biblical Living by which we gain heavenly reward: Biblical prayer, Biblical Prayer, Biblical Fasting, Biblical Discernment/Choices (Mt. 6:1-7:6), 6) How to enter the Kingdom of God/heaven: Ask, Seek, Knock, Enter (Mt. 7:7-11), 7) How to build heavenly reward in the Kingdom (Mt. 7:12), 8) Warnings of rejecting Christ/the narrow road and staying on the world's wide road to destruction as well as warning of false teachers and false converts (Mt. 7:12-23), 9) Conclusion to ACT on this sermon by parable/story of two builders: building on the sand of the world vs. the rock of truth/Jesus Christ (Mt. 7:24-27), and 10) Reaction to the sermon: what will YOU do with this sermon? (Mt. 7:28-29). Join Truth Bible Church as they study Matthew 5:1-7:29 and Luke 6:17-49 and pursue the Biblical goals of knowing, loving, serving, and worshiping the Lord Jesus.
